Diving into R&B

R&B, or “Rhythm and Blues,” developed at the beginning of the 20th century, mainly in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and Detroit, and gained great popularity in the future.

In 1964, the New Orleans female trio The Dixie Cups performed a cover of The Beatles’ “Chapel of Love”, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. After that, many popular songs were covered in the same style, R&B. Afterward, the African-American culture spread worldwide thanks to R&B.

The R&B genre is heavily influenced by jazz, blues, and soul. R&B songs usually have soft and less auto-tuned vocals and heavy use of drums.

Even now, this genre is very popular.

Among the most famous R&B artists are Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Mariah Carey, Rihanna, and many others; among the new artists, I can mention SZA and H.E.R.
